Homebuyer Workshops

Our Home Stretch Workshops can help you determine if you’re ready to own a home and make a plan to get there. Home Stretch Workshops were developed by the Minnesota Homeownership Center and explore every step of the homebuying process, including the mortgage process, shopping for a home, and overcoming barriers from credit debt, income, and savings.

CAP-HC’s Home Stretch Workshops are open to the public. Advanced registration is required, and the $40 workshop fee can be waived for income-eligible households.

Homebuyer Counseling

Dreaming of owning your own home? HUD-certified counselors from CAP-HC can help you understand the process from start to finish. A counselor can help you: 

  1. Review your credit and finances so you know how close you are to homeownership and how to make it the rest of the way
  2. Understand the homebuyer process, including the mortgage process and programs that can make it easier to buy a home sooner
  3. Create a plan to achieve your dream of owning your own home

Homebuyer Counseling

Dream of owning your own home but don’t know where to start? Community Action Partnership of Hennepin County’s (CAP-HC’s) homeownership counseling can help!

HUD*-certified Housing Counselors work with clients to determine homebuyer readiness by reviewing finances, checking your credit report, and creating a budget. Then counselors help clients develop an action plan to achieve their homeownership goals. Whether you are thinking about purchasing a home some day or have already found your dream home, our Housing Counselors are available to answer your questions.

A counselor can help you with the following mortgage readiness steps:

  • Review your finances
  • Review credit (FREE credit report)
  • Make a credit improvement plan if needed
  • Explain the mortgage process
  • Determine the amount of mortgage you may be eligible for
  • Identify mortgage loans and down payment assistance programs you may be eligible for.
  • Make referrals to lenders approved for 1st-time homebuyer programs
