Earned Income Tax Credit
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) helps low- to moderate-income workers and families get a tax break. If you qualify, you can use the credit to reduce the taxes you owe – and maybe increase your refund. The amount of your credit may change if you have children, dependents, are disabled, or meet other criteria. Using this credit may affect other government benefits for some types of workers, like the military and clergy. If you claim the EITC credit, your refund may be delayed. By law, refunds to taxpayers who claim the Earned Income Tax will not begin until mid-February.
Please note: This year, under the Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2020, taxpayers may elect to use their 2019 earned income to figure their 2020 EITC or ACTC or both if their 2019 earned income is more than their 2020 earned income.
